Sanity Sunday- Five by 2Cellos

by Nomad

In my opinion, there's something incredibly seductive and expressive about the sound of the cello. So. what could be better than two cellos with two extremely gifted musicians playing them?

If you've never heard of the dual 2Cellos, allow me to introduce you. Both accomplished musicians independently, Croatian cellists Luka Sulic and Stjepan Hauser, have become something of phenomena by pushing the cello to new levels and attracting new audiences.

The duo have sold out tours across the USA, Japan, South America, Australia, and Europe. They have performed at venues and events as prestigious as the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee in the UK, The Ford’s Theatre Annual Gala with President Obama, the Emmys in Los Angeles, Celebrity Fight Night Gala in Florence, Starkey Hearing Foundation Gala, and FIFA’s Ballon D’Or in Switzerland.
Here they are playing "Oblivion."

As far as their musical backgrounds:
Sulic and Hauser have played the cello since childhood; Sulic graduated from the acclaimed Royal Academy of Music in London, and Hauser from the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, both in 2011...
Sulic has won a series of top prizes at numerous prestigious international music competitions, including First and Special Prize at the VII Lutoslawski International Cello Competition in Warsaw (2009)..
Hauser has worked with acclaimed classical artists such as Mstislav Rostropovich, Bernard Greenhouse, Menahem Pressler and Ivry Gitlis, to mention a few. He has collected no less than twenty-one first prizes at the national and international music competitions and performed twice for Prince Charles in Buckingham and St. James’s Palace.
The next selection is the song of thanksgiving called "Benedictus" by the Welsh composer Karl Jenkins.

The next song, "Gabriel's Oboe" is the main theme for the 1986 film The Mission.

In addition, 2Cellos have recorded numerous pop hits. Here's Sting's hit "Fields of God."

And finally, I will end with this timeless classic, "Moon River" filmed in their native Croatia.

In one of the thousands of interviews in their world tour, they were asked if there was anything else in their lives except the cello?
Always the joker, Hauser promptly answered, "Yes, the bow.
