One of the most talented Brazilian bossa nova singer during the 1950s and '60s, Sylvia Telles' vocal style has been described as "smooth, sophisticated, generally understated, yet somehow bursting with raw emotion."
Known by friends as "Dindi" (pronounced "Gin-Gin" in Portuguese), Telles began recording at age 21 in 1955, and over the next 11 years, she recorded 9 albums and 18 singles. Her on-stage career spanned little more than a decade.
Although celebrated in Brazil for her successful music and television career, Telles never had a chance to become well-known internationally.
Sadly, her musical career was cut short, On 19 December 1966. Telles, along with her lover, Horacio de Carvalho were killed in a car accident.
She was only 32 years old.
