Another year is coming to a close. And this year was harder to bear than most that I have lived through. And just think, a year ago this time we were looking forward to all the joys that 2020 would shower down upon us.
Instead, after a year of pummeling, we are crawling toward a new sense of normalcy. On the brighter side, we look forward to a year free of Trump's shenanigans with Covid-19 slowly coming under control.
I found this end of the year poem written back in 1910 by Ella Wheeler Wilcox.
The Year
What can be said in New Year rhymes,
That’s not been said a thousand times?
The new years come, the old years go,
We know we dream, we dream we know.
We rise up laughing with the light,
We lie down weeping with the night.
We hug the world until it stings,
We curse it then and sigh for wings.
We live, we love, we woo, we wed,
We wreathe our brides, we sheet our dead.
We laugh, we weep, we hope, we fear,
And that’s the burden of the year.
So, I will close then with a collective thank-you to each and every member of this community- to those of you who comment and those who prefer not to comment- to members who are living and to those who have passed.
Your contributions have lightened the burden of this year.
