The French Model: Will Climate Change Spark a World Wide Revolution?
by Nomad
Can we afford to ignore the growing impact of climate change on the stability of nations? Are we facing the potential of a global chaos that will make the French Revolution look like a playground squabble?
On the Brink
Scientists tell us that the world
stands on the brink of a radical shifting of the global climate patterns. From the data, we can at the very least assume,
the effects will be unpredictable and it is very likely that there will be more
losers than winners.
However, if you think that those
dire predictions lay in the distant future, you would be incorrect. A report
from the UN's climate science panel last year noted that climate change has
already cut into the global food
supply. What caught the attention of the government officials from 115
countries who reviewed the report was a blunt and categorical statement.
Climate
change, the report warned, could
threaten all aspects of global food security. At this time there was enough
evidence, the scientists said to say "for certain that climate change is
affecting food production on land and sea."
That is not based on
projections but effects found in real-time.

Teddy Roosevelt and the Death Knell of the Republic
by Nomad
It often surprises me how clear-sighted so many of our leaders of the past seemed compared to the muddled-headed ideas of the present day. The fight against oligarchy and corporate-rigging of our political system did not begin with this generation. We have walked this way about a century ago. However, because of the general ignorance of our own history, we have been deprived of the wisdom and support of our elders.

Bounty in Common: The Early Christians Fathers vs. The One Percent
by Nomad
Here's what the Early Fathers of the Christian Church had to say about the rich. Despite what many on the Far Right might say, these ideas about wealth redistribution, sharing God's blessings and holding all things for the common good came a long long time before Marx.
It always amazes me how few Christians are aware of Church teaching. They claim to believe every word but- as I saw recently from a religious politician- quote Ghandi mistaking for the Bible.
It's a pity that Christians do not actually study their faith seriously. If they reviewed for themselves what the early Church fathers said about the greedy rich- instead of taking it second-hand from wealthy evangelists, they would have cleansed the world of the 1% quite some time ago.
Of course, the sad fact is that the capitalist system untempered by at least some kind of socialism, and pure Christianity, as taught in by the Early Fathers, are two ideologies that are incompatible. Judge for yourself.

Billionaire Tom Perkins' Kristallnacht Fears: Isn't There a More Accurate Historical Parallel?
by Nomad
Recent remarks from one member of the super-wealthy class comparing the treatment of Jews to how the 1% is being treated by progressive stirred a lot of controversy. That should have been expected.
The Nazi comparison was deeply flawed but another historical period- the time just before the French Revolution- might be a lot closer to the mark.
Recently venture capitalist Tom Perkins raised a bunch of eyebrows after comparing the so-called persecution of wealthy Americans to the Nazi campaigns against the Jews. As high level executive in many computer and technology related companies Perkins' net worth has been estimated at $8 billion.
In an open letter to the (News Corporation-owned) Wall Street Journal, Perkins said:
In an open letter to the (News Corporation-owned) Wall Street Journal, Perkins said:
"Writing from the epicenter of progressive thought, San Francisco, I would call attention to the parallels of fascist Nazi Germany to its war on its 'one percent,' namely its Jews, to the progressive war on the American one percent, namely the 'rich.'
Progressive war? And he did not stop there.
"This is a very dangerous drift in our American thinking. Kristallnacht was unthinkable in 1930; is its descendent 'progressive' radicalism unthinkable now?"
Progressive radicalism descended from Nazism? Really? What kind of education did this man get? Home-schooling?
